A month long series of events inspiring children and adults to read! Join us for these fun, family friendly events!

April 19, 2018 – 8:00 am - Light of Literacy Awards. The Light of Literacy Awards recognizes those “Luminaries” whose actions demonstrate a deep understanding of the transformational power of literacy in the lives of those in our community. This awards ceremony brings together leaders from around the area to recognize those who are luminaries in our community, lighting the way for lighting the way for others by their example. April 19 – May 19, 2018 - Salisbury Reads – A Community Reads program encouraging everyone to read and discuss the same book. Limited free copies available from all Wicomico Public Libraries locations. 2018 Adult Title – Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance, 2018 Children’s Title – Who Was Harriet Tubman? By Yona Zeldis McDonough. Join our online book discussion.

April 19 – May 19, 2018 – Community Book Drive. In multiple locations throughout Wicomico County. We will be collecting new & gently used books and donations. Books will be distributed through local non-profits and the public schools. Click here to see a list of all Book Drive drop off locations.

April 21, 2018 – 3:00 pm - Race For Wellness & Literacy. A 5K race/1K fun walk sponsored by the Wicomico County Board of Education host at the Delmarva Shorebirds Arthur Perdue Stadium. Entry fee, registration required, register on the day of the race. Help support the Community Book Drive by donating books at the race.

April 21, 2018 – 8:30 am – 3:30 pm – SU Children’s and Young Adult Literature Festival. On the campus of Salisbury University. New Beginnings: Celebrating Individuality and Diversity in Children’s Literature. For event schedule and registration click here

May 2, 2018 – 12:00pm – 9:00pm – Sweetfrog Fundraiser Night – Visit Sweetfrog and bring a copy of this flyer to have 20% of your order help to benefit Wicomico Public Libraries purchase new books to be donated to the Community Book Drive.

May 17, 2018 – 6:00 pm – Salisbury Reads Community Discussion. Join us at the Downtown Library to discuss this year’s Salisbury Reads choice, Hillbilly Elegy.

May 19, 2018 – 10:00 am – 2:00 pm - Book Lovin’ Block Party – Free, one-day fair in Downtown Salisbury. Find out all the fun that you can have reading. Includes storytelling, performers, animals, book vendors, authors, publishers, food, and children’s activities.
