Changes At Wicomico Public Libraries

The public libraries on the Eastern Shore of Maryland are joining together to create a new shore catalog!

WHAT DOES A LIBRARY CATALOG DO?
A library catalog keeps track of all the items in the library, stores information for our members, and helps us organize new items.

WILL LIBRARY SERVICES BE DISRUPTED BY THIS TRANSITION?

  • The Downtown Library will be closed from Saturday Aug. 12, 2017 – Thursday Aug. 17, 2017 for this transition.
  • During this time no fines will be charged, members will not be able to search the catalog, no library cards will be created, and library materials cannot be placed on hold.
  • Our Centre Branch Library (located in the mall next to Chuck E. Cheese’s) and our Pittsville Branch Library (located next to Pittsville Elem. & Middle School) will be open their normal business hours. You may still check out materials, use Wi-Fi and the computers at those locations.
  • The Bookmobile will be off the road during this time.

HOW WILL THE CHANGE AFFECT ME?

  • Library members must save their reading histories and lists and email it to themselves by Aug. 9. After that date, all reading histories and lists will be deleted due to the transition. Library staff can assist you with this.
  • No library materials will be due between Aug. 9 and Aug. 23.
  • After Aug. 17 all library cardholders must come in and verify information on their library account.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THIS TRANSITION?

  • Access to more materials and faster availability of new titles.
  • Faster delivery of reserved materials.
  • Access to personal borrowing record.
  • User friendly and modern catalog.
  • Searching for library materials and placing holds will be easier and more efficient.
  • Mobile friendly.
  • Digital library (ex. e-books, downloadable music and movies) will be searchable within the library catalog.
  • Access to an online catalog that includes collections of 8 libraries on the Eastern Shore (Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester Counties).
